Remote Work: Sometimes it’s not about billing hours, but where you are billing them. A little flexibility goes a long way and more firms are offering associates flex options to work remotely. Don’t get too comfy in those pj’s though. Face to face interaction with the team is still an integral part of collaboration, mentorship, ensuring consistent client service and building culture.

Modernized Eval System: Firms like Hogan and Allen & Overy are taking big steps away from the annual review system while others are incrementally moving to modernize reviews. All agree it’s more effective to provide snapshot feedback in real time. Firms are employing tech and org dev strategies to provide user friendly tools and incentives to shift the feedback loop.

Mental Health: In 2018 the industry finally opened a dialogue about the high rates of mental health and addiction issues in the field. It will take time, but MP’s, HR and PD are starting to work together to destigmatize and address the problem. This can include providing resources to treat issues and preventative programs such as education and awareness training and mindfulness sessions.
